This tea is traditionally processed which means the fresh leaf is delivered to the factory on foot, naturally withered, lightly rolled and then dried naturally. The leaves are picked, sorted and processed entirely by hand. Mountain Splendor is grown on the Tinderet Tea Estate, one of Kenya’s most famous tea estates. The estate sits at the foot of soaring Mt. Tinderet (8661 ft.) on the edge of the vast Tinderet Forest. The bushes used to produce this tea were planted in the 1950’s. Some of the finest teas in Africa are produced on Tinderet. Tinderet is located in Kenya’s Nandi Highlands which are lush green rolling hills home to many varieties of wildlife including lions, zebras, elephants, monkeys, tropical birds and butterflies. The area’s main employers are tea estates.
